It was a dash to the finish line Thanksgiving morning as a sea of people made their way through downtown Austin to burn off some calories before turkey.
The Thundercloud Subs Turkey Trot is one of Austin’s most iconic races. The trot, which starts and ends at the Long Center, has raised $1.5 million for Caritas of Austin over the past two decades.
"If you're going to run a race, this is probably the best race to run in regards to just families involved, dogs are allowed, bikes are allowed, strollers," runner Jessica Jordan said.
For people of all ages, shapes and sizes, it’s about coming together for a little exercise before all the Thanksgiving staples.
"A little pre-work off for the pumpkin pie,” Turkey Trot walker Misty Terrell said.
It’s a Thanksgiving celebration that incorporates health and fitness.
"I'm glad Austin is focused on running and fitness so that way we can enjoy these events as a city," Jordan said.
The Thundercloud Subs Turkey Trot is in its 22nd year.
