It's a tradition for one Central Texas family, and now it's become a bit of a phenomenon.
Holiday lights fanatic John Storms has one of the best displays in the state. His house is decked out with lights to the YouTube hit, “Gangnam Style”
While his home is quite the spectacle, Storms doesn’t want to advertise exactly where you can find it. Last year, police asked him to shut down his light show because it was creating a traffic issue.
"We want as many people to enjoy the lights as possible, but we don't want to ruin holidays for the neighborhood," he said.
Storms said decorating his house is a passion project that gets underway well before the tidings begin.
"I like programming the lights,” Storms said. “I like how the lights look, but I hate putting the lights up."
Calling on help from his wife and daughter, even professionals are on hand for hard-to-reach areas.
While hanging the lights may feel like a chore, Storms gets a kick out of the choreography.
Using a special computer program, every beat of the song is accounted for.
"Every one of these plugs goes out to a snowflake or a tree or a string of lights," he said. "Christmas is kind of that feeling of 'awe' something cool. For me, the lights give that to us so we can go outside watch the lights and go, 'That's really cool.'"
Storms says he has very understanding neighbors, and does take steps to limit the noise. He uses an FM transmitter so he can pump the music into car radios as they drive by.
