KUT officials takes over second radio station
The University of Texas’ KUT radio station officially took the reins of a second station Friday.
At 2 p.m., KUT gained control of former oldies station 98.9 KXBT FM as part of a plan to establish a second public broadcasting station in town.
The original KUT will switch to all-news programming and 98.9 will broadcast all-music starting Jan. 2. Until then, 98.9 FM will Austin-centric holiday music.
The first song playing Friday afternoon was Elvis’ hit “Here Comes Santa Claus.”
The U.T. Board of Regents approved the purchase in August of this year.
