Close friends say a paramedic serving both Austin and Fredericksburg will leave a lasting impact on the Central Texas community.

Cpt. Randy Trinkle died in a car crash Saturday while driving home to Fredericksburg. He had just finished his shift with Austin-Travis County EMS.

Colleagues say Trinkle's expertise was instrumental with the agency's special operations team. He brought new techniques that are now used by fellow paramedics.

Cpt. Ken Larsen says Trinkle touched lives across the region.

"It's a difficult time for the emergency responders throughout Texas that had the opportunity to work with Randy and know Randy,” Cpt. Larsen said. “But it's also comforting to see the support that all of the agencies have given to each other during this time."

Larsen says Captain Trinkle leaves behind two young children.

You can help the family cover expenses by donating to the Austin Paramedics Relief Fund. Visit AustinParamedicFund.org for more information.
