Brown Santa program in need of donations

An organization that helps families in need at Christmas needs your help.

The Travis County Sheriff's Office Brown Santa Program has received more applicants this year and is short on donations. The organization's goal is to help more than 2,000 families, but the toy bins and food shelves aren't full yet.

The group is asking people to donate non-perishable food, new toys, and cash.

"You can go to the department store and buy a toy for $20, but we can actually take that $20 and actually make three toys out it,” Tracy Hill-Dorty with Brown Santa said. “We have a toy supplier that we can get a hold of to get in bulk. So we can make the money go a little further, so the cash is actually a good thing too."

You can drop off donations at any H-E-B grocery store in Travis County or visit BrownSanta.org to find other drop off locations and learn about a 5K and motorcycle ride happening this weekend to benefit the organization.
