Shards of glass found in pinto beans at SE Austin elementary

By: YNN Staff

Shards of glass were found in a serving of pinto beans at Allison Elementary in southeast Austin Wednesday, according to the school’s principal, Guadalupe Velasquez.

In a letter to parents, Velasquez said a cafeteria worker noticed the glass as pre-K and Kindergarten students arrived for lunch. The cases of beans were immediately disposed of, along with other food containers as a precaution.

The letter states there have been no reports of any Allison students consuming foreign objects, but school staff is monitoring the situation closely.

Parents of students who may have eaten pinto beans were notified individually.

AISD officials say they have removed glass sneeze guards at 18 campuses to prevent any similar occurrence.

Full letter to parents from Principal Guadalupe Velasquez:

There is no evidence that students at Allison elementary consumed any foreign objects in their food. The school’s nurse and all teachers have been advised to monitor students closely.

Also, the parents of all students who may have eaten pinto beans have been contacted directly. If you have not been contacted, your student(s) is not at risk based on all of the information we have.
