Jocelyn and Jayleen Rodriguez have never had their make-up and hair done before a photo shoot. Their expecting mother, Jenny Sanchez, thought it would be a great thing to do before the holidays.
"It's nice what they do for everybody. I'm not originally from Texas, but what they have here is very nice," Sanchez said.
Dozens of photographers from the Austin area donated their time to Help Portrait Austin Saturday. The event offered free family portraits to almost 200 hundred families.
"When people see a good photograph of themselves, they do, they feel good, they feel seen and worthy, and I think that it's really important just to have everyone have that opportunity," photographer Elizabeth Hack said.
Families received one 8X10 and two 5X7 photos. It was a special opportunity for these families to get a forever keepsake.
"In Texas here, we had a pretty nasty episode of wildfires where people lost everything. The one thing that often times they were not able to think of bringing is their photos. And the first thing they miss and treasure are those photos that can't be replaced," said Help-Portrait-Austin's Mark Charbonneau.
Nashville photographer Jeremy Cowert founded Help-Portrait back in 2009. The program now takes place in 60 different countries.
