You can find Santa standing guard outside of stands at Papa Noel Christmas Trees on Northland Drive in Austin. The tree outfitter had the honor of outfitting the White House Blue Room with this year's 18-foot tree.

But inside Papa Noel's tent on a chilly Monday evening, the spirit of the season warms the heart of local holiday lovers looking for that Christmas mainstay.

Berri Rushing plans to surprise her family with an eight-foot tree. For her, there's no skimping on Christmas spirit.

“There’s always a cold front that moves in at some point and that’s when I come out and get my tree,” she said.

But what tree to choose? Noble and Fraser firs are popular for the home, and both have that seasonal smell.

“Fraser tends to have a more evergreen smell, the Nobles have more like a cirrus hint to them,” John Blankemeyer with Papa Noel said.

If you are particular about your tree, you'll want to give it a lot of TLC by keeping it out of the sun and giving it plenty to drink.
