With the cold weather hitting Central Texas, area shelters are concerned about the safety of those without a home.
House the Homeless needs your donations to keep people warm. The group’s goal is to raise $18,000 to buy thermal underwear, scarves, gloves and more to give to those in need.
Advocate Richard Troxell pulled out “Homie” the doll to show exactly what a homeless person needs to survive the cold.
"They can totally outfit ‘Homie’ for $35, or they can go ahead and do a top and the bottom if money is tight for $10,” Troxell said. “Whatever people have and want to give, it may save a life."
House the Homeless will distribute the warm items at the 2013 Thermal Underwear Party on Jan. 1 from noon to 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church at Ninth and Nueces streets.
