Austin Police arrested the head of Austin's Christmas Bureau Wednesday.
Executive director Shon Washington was booked just after 1 p.m. According to officers, Washington was stopped for running a red light near 51st Street and Cameron Road.
Police say he provided a fake name to the officer, which led to the officer searching the car. Police then found methamphetamines inside.
Washington oversees the Christmas Bureau, which is currently under investigation. APD says the arrest was a coincidence.
"This incident is in no way related to the Christmas Bureau investigation,” APD spokesperson Veneza Bremner said. “That Christmas Bureau investigation is ongoing."
The Christmas Bureau has been in Austin for almost half a century. Its mission is to help struggling families celebrate the holidays.
Earlier this month, a judge froze the nonprofit's assets. The state attorney general's office says Washington and his family cleaned out the charity's bank accounts.
A judge also issued a restraining order against Washington, his wife and two former Christmas Bureau officials.
