Austin police want you to know the dangers of drunk driving as you hit those holiday parties.

If you get pulled over for any sort of ticket this month, expect the officer to also hand you a flyer. On it, you'll see the story of Mayra Vega and Emmanuel Hernandez, Travis High students killed by a drunk driver in 2006. Police say any drivers stopped in Travis County will get the sobering reminder.

Also, more officers will be on patrol.

"The goal is to plan ahead. Have a designated driver,” Robbie Barrera with the Department of Public Safety said. “A designated driver isn't the person at the party that's had the least amount of alcohol. A designated driver is the person that's had no amount of alcohol."

Officials with the Texas Department of Public Safety say they responded more than 2,000 crashes last December, with 78 people dying in wrecks that involved drunk drivers.
