Like most young people, Matthew Hall is always using his smartphone.
"If it's not my phone, it's my Ipad," he said.
For him, it's mostly games, browsing the web and texting, but since he lives in Cedar Park, he's got a new way to connect to the city.
The town’s new app called “CP Connect” lets him know if there are any out of the ordinary occurrences going on in the Austin suburb.
"We've long been looking for a way to make it even easier for our citizens to report problems and to have them fixed fast," Mayor Matt Powell said.
A free download for IPhone, Android and Windows phones, CP Connect makes it easy to get the city's attention. It's not for emergencies or police reports, but for everyday city issues like potholes, code violations, clogged storm drains and animal control.
Residents can send in pictures of problems n the area. Using the phone’s GPS, it finds the exact location and instantly notifies city staff. City leaders hope the application will allow them to give better customer service and more efficiently schedule work crews."
"It goes straight into city staff and you get it fixed fast,” Powell said. “We like to call it, ‘Snap Send and Mend.’"
Users can also check out other people's reports and vote for them to raise the priority.
