Two people were killed in a crash early Saturday morning on the northbound access road of Interstate 35 near Rundberg Lane.
Police say that around 2 a.m., a driver traveling northbound at a high rate of speed lost control of the car, causing it to leave the road and crash into a building.
An EMS crew transported to female driver to University Medical Center Brackenridge where she later died of her injuries.
A man who was riding in the passenger seat was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said that rain may have been a contributing factor in the crash.
“Anytime you have a long period of no rain and then it rains, we need to be extra careful driving on the road because the oil and the soot from 64 days really create a really slick road," Sgt. David Crowder with the Austin Police Department said.
Both victims were in their early to mid-twenties.
