Some drivers in East Austin faced a major shutdown because of an early morning brush fire on Ed Bluestein Boulevard near Loyola Lane Thursday morning.

Despite strong winds, firefighters were able to get ahead of the blaze, and prevent it from spreading to any nearby homes.

"Crews jumped on that pretty quickly,” AFD Batt. Chief Palmer Buck said. “Still, ahead of the wind, the fire was racing towards some homes. Again, excellent job by the firefighters to keep those homes safe."

Ed Bluestein Boulevard has been re-opened. As a reminder, the Central Texas area is in a Red Flag Warning until 3 p.m. this afternoon and no outdoor burning is allowed.
