Michael Zheng turned two years old this month, accomplishing a feat doctors didn’t think was possible.

Michael suffers from a rare genetic disorder which gives him seizures and kills most children before they grow to be toddlers.

But like his parents, Michael is a fighter.

"Always, me and my husband are always thinking positive. Like, it's not going to happen like that," Michael’s mother, Lan Tran Thi, said.

Last Christmas, the family spent a month and a half in the hospital. Doctors told them to say goodbye to Baby Michael.

Michael’s father had another message for his son.

"Michael, you cannot leave yet. If you leave now, you are going to hurt your mom so much. You're going to break her heart. And he kind of woke up and let me know, 'I'm not going,'" Michael's father, Wei Zheng, said.

And he didn't.

"I think he's going to live a long time with me. We have too much hope,” Lan said.

It's a miracle that his parents are hoping for.

Michael's disorder has no cure and no explanation.

"When I go out, I see a lot of kids around,” Michael's mother said. "They play, and they're very healthy. I look at my son and it's too much pain."

Michael’s family has a new plan. Two months ago, they opened a restaurant, Chinos Burrito, in Round Rock to help with Michael’s medical expenses.

His father, Wei, works at Chinos Burrito 16 hours a day, seven days a week, knowing that with each burrito sold, Michael gets one step closer to the expensive treatments their insurance won’t cover.

"There's always a solution, no matter how hard we try,” Wei said. "When you find a motive in life, nothing can stop you. Nothing can make you tired."

The family says each day is like Christmas, as long as their son is still breathing.
