Bell County sheriff just days away from retirement
Sheriff Dan Smith
After decades of fighting crime in Central Texas, Bell County’s Sheriff Dan Smith is just days away from retiring.
Smith's career in law enforcement started nearly 40 years ago and he wore a sheriff's badge for 28 of them.
Voters elected Smith to the position in 1985 and reelected him to seven consecutive terms.
Sheriff Smith's official last day is December 31st.
Bell County Precinct 3 County Commission beat out Frank Hernandez Sr. to take over for Sheriff Smith.
