APD: Driver who ran red light caused deadly crash

Austin police say a driver who ran a red light caused a fatal wreck Saturday in Southeast Austin.

Police said that just before 1 a.m. Saturday, the driver of a Nissan Titan pickup truck ran a red light at the intersection of East Highway 71 and FM 973 and struck a Toyota Corolla sedan.

The the woman driving the Toyota was taken to a hospital with serious injuries and died later that night.

Her death was Austin’s 78th traffic fatality of the year.

The driver of the truck was cited for running a red light and for having an expired driver’s license.
