Now that the Affordable Care Act is starting to become a reality, taxes are kicking in to pay for the program.

Austin Business Journal Editor Colin Pope said one of those taxes went into effect Jan. 1. A 2.3 percent tax for medical device manufacturers is expected to raise $29 billion over the next decade.

The hike is impacting two companies in town which expect to lose $3 to $4 million from their annual profits.
