The school finance trial is set to resume next week following a holiday break.

More than 600 school districts are suing the state. They claim that $5.4 billion in cuts to public education and grant programs approved during the last legislative session have made funding inadequate.

There's some talk lawmakers might wait on taking any legislative action until the court makes a decision.

"If those challenges don't get through the courts in a timely matter, which no one thinks they will, what you've got is people already talking about a special session of the legislature and the regular session hasn't even started," James Henson with the Texas Politics Project said.

The Attorney General's office argues that funding is adequate. Witnesses are set to testify about the impact of the cuts in the coming weeks.
