People are waking up to the sound of rain throughout Central Texas. Rain showers have drenched many areas all night, and it isn’t going to let up as the day moves forward.
There is a 100 percent chance of rain Wednesday, and a Flash Flood Watch is in effect through 6 p.m. for Bastrop, Caldwell, Travis and Williamson counties.
According to YNN meteorologists, as of 7 a.m., Austin's seen 1.49 inches of rainfall since midnight. So far, the heaviest total of 3.51 inches comes from Round Mountain in the Hill Country. Givens Park in East Austin also reports a heavy total of 3.23 inches.
Although the rain is welcomed, it can be dangerous.
The Austin Fire Department rescued a man who fell into Shoal Creek Tuesday night. It happened where the creek passes under Lamar Boulevard near 12th Street.
Fire crews secured the man to a stretcher and then brought him up to street level with the help of a rope. EMS took the man to a hospital with a broken leg. Police say the man may have taken shelter underneath the bridge.
At the time of the incident, the creek was dry. Officials say the person was lucky, because in a few hours, Shoal Creek could have flooded because of the rain.
If you find yourself on low water crossings, turn around, don’t drown. Drive slowly, leave early and use caution.
