City Council to consider ban on gun shows
Gun show organizers could soon face hurdles within the City of Austin.
Sources within City Hall say Council Member Mike Martinez's office is drafting a resolution that could restrict or ban gun shows from city-owned properties.
The move coincides with changes Travis County Commissioners are mulling. There have been 17 gun shows at the Travis County Expo Center since late 2010 and nine more are on the books over the next 12 months.
If commissioners approve the ban next week, a majority of those shows will be forced to find a private venue.
It could also fuel a legal fight with the state. Attorney General Greg Abbott tweeted late Tuesday that a lawsuit would be likely should either ban happen.
There's no word on when the matter will go before Austin City Council.
