A historic road in Dripping Springs is coming to life once again.

Residents say when the post office that used to be on Mercer Street relocated in 2009, it killed business. However, with recent openings of boutique shops and eateries, the community is committed to revamping the street.

"Once the post office closed down across the street, the whole street kind of went dead," business owner Stacey Dudley said.

Dudley is one of the owners of Dudley's Wine Bar and Tap Room, which just opened up on Valentine’s Day last year.

"It's really nice to see people coming in and focusing on this street and trying to revitalize it and make it live again," Dudley said.

Sherrie Parks with the Dripping Springs Chamber of Commerce expects the growth trend to continue.

"Businesses are seeing the potential for this historic district, especially since we've gotten a grant to beautify it," Parks said.

A recent grant for $420,000 will also go towards road improvements, sidewalks and additional beautification for the street. With hopes that when that's done, residents and business owners like Dudley will see more neighbors moving into town.

"It's just kind of been a domino effect,” Dudley said. “It's really nice to see everyone come together in the community and really get behind trying to make this street alive again."

In addition to the $420,000 grant, there's an additional $140,000 in donations. The contract for the project will be awarded in June, but before all that happens, another business will soon open a new dance hall is coming in February.
