Man killed in crash while mistakenly fleeing from police
Troopers with the Department of Public Safety are investigating a fatal car crash in Bastrop County.
A DPS spokesman said Glenn Alexander, a 24-year old Bastrop man, thought he was fleeing police when he crashed his car into a tree and died, even though police were not chasing him.
According to Carlos Lopez, Travis County Constable, Precinct 5, his deputies went to a woman's home to serve a warrant for a child support issue. Alexander was at the home and when deputies arrived, he jumped in a car and took off down Highway 95. He apparently thought the deputies were there for him because he had a felony arrest warrant.
A Bastrop County sheriff’s deputy was nearby and clocked Alexander driving more than 100 miles per hour.
The deputy turned to follow, but as he topped a hill, he saw Alexander’s car had struck a tree when he overshot a turn onto Big Sandy Road.
The 24-year-old was pronounced dead by emergency officials.
