Four years after a former camp counselor was charged in a manslaughter case, the Spicewood woman is now serving her prison sentence.

On Jan. 19, 2009, Lynda Mescher was doing donuts in her truck when it rolled over near the Grelle Recreation Center in Burnet County. At the time, five children from the Silver Trails Horse Ranch were in the bed of the pickup and one was in the cab.

Eleven-year-old Brianna Plehn died at the scene. Mescher was running the ranch where kids attended camp at the time of the incident.

Mescher was convicted in August 2010 on manslaughter and injury to a child charges. She was sentenced to eight years on the manslaughter charge and four years for serious injury to child. The jury ruled the sentences will run concurrently.

Texas law allows those convicted of a felony, sentenced to 10 years or less, to remain free on bond pending an appeal.

A warrant was issued after Mescher's appeals were denied. The 51-year-old was arrested on Friday.
