TxDOT raises speed limits on select McLennan County highways

Sometimes called the “Main Street of Texas," the Interstate 35 corridor is undergoing major changes—including a boost in speed limits.
Speed limits are also slated to go up to 75 miles per hour on many other highways in an around McLennan County. The jump is the result of a TxDOT study to make roadways more efficient and less congested.
"It's not an arbitrary thing,” Ken Roberts with TxDOT said. “It takes engineering study to determine where we can increase these speeds and do it safely."
The faster speeds require an elevated level of caution from drivers.
"Just because it says 75, doesn't mean that's the speed you can run. You have to adjust your speed according to conditions,” Roberts said. "The responsibility of safety is on each and every driver."
And don’t hit the gas quite yet. All current speed limits will stay in effect until new signs go up. Most should be up by mid-spring.
