Robbery suspects arrested after chase in Hays County

A Hays County High School student stumbled onto a burglary and became involved in a shooting and a car chase Thursday.
The student left school for a dentist appointment and when he arrived home, he found a pair of people burglarizing his home.
His brother told YNN—and police have confirmed—that the burglars then shot at the student and fled the scene in a pickup truck.

While on the phone with 911 dispatchers, the student hopped into a car of his own and chased the burglars. Police said the suspects continued to shoot at the student.
"They fired at him, his car has been struck. We did find out there were bullet holes in his vehicle. You have to be careful trailing after a suspect that just fired at you at your house," Hays County Sheriff Gary Cutler said.
When police caught up with the chase near Dripping Springs, the burglars stopped their truck and fled on food. One was quickly arrested. The other burglar was arrested later with the help of a K9 unit.
A firearm found at the scene has been tied to another burglary in Hays County.
"One of the weapons we have recovered, we have confirmed it was stolen in a Hays County burglary in the past on one of the burglary cases we are currently working on," Sheriff Cutler said.
Justin Anthony Hernandez, 24, and Gary Zuniga, 29, are charged with aggravated robbery, evading arrest, and weapons charges.
The Hays County Sheriff’s Office warns citizens to not pursue criminals on their own. They recommend giving a good description of the criminals to law enforcement and letting the police handle the arrest.
