Austin police are looking for a man they say sexually assaulted a homeless man in a vacant apartment off Barton Skyway early Monday morning.

Officers say the suspect approached the homeless man near the corner of Fourth and Lavaca Streets downtown. The suspect told the man he sympathized with his troubles, and offered him a place to stay for the night.

He instead taking the man to his home, the suspect took him to an unoccupied apartment in the 2900 block of Barton Skyway, just off MoPac. It was there--around 3 a.m.--he sexually assaulted the man at gunpoint.

When the incident was over, the suspect fled and the victim was able to leave the apartment and call for help.

Police say it didn’t appear anyone had forced entry to the apartment , so they are investigating how the suspect may have gained access.
