Cause of International Residence fire 'undetermined'
Investigation into the fire in Northwest Austin’s International Resident Apartments has wrapped up, and fire detectives have ruled its cause as undetermined.

Multiple fire agencies responded to the blaze, which broke out shortly after 1 a.m. on Dec. 20. High winds that night helped the blaze quickly spread to three buildings, prompting widespread evacuations of several buildings in the complex. Up to seven other buildings were damaged by smoke.

According to Sgt. John Foster with the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office, investigators were unable determine an exact origin of the blaze due to how much destruction it caused and how hot it burned. Investigators have concluded that the fire was very likely accidental.

A total of 68 apartments were destroyed in the fire. A temporary shelter was established at the Northwest Fellowship Church along nearby Pond Springs Road for the 60 families who were displaced.

No injuries were reported.
