Testimony begins in trial of Jovita's drug ring suspects
Witness testimony is underway in the federal trial of 15 people accused of operating a heroin distribution ring out of a popular South Austin restaurant, bar and music venue.

After selecting a jury Monday morning, prosecutors called three FBI agents and one Austin police officer as witnesses Monday afternoon. The FBI witnesses discussed how the investigation was run, how searches were conducted, and the government wiretaps that intercepted thousands of phone calls among the principle suspects.

The alleged ring-leader of the operation was Amado “Mayo” Pardo. Pardo died late last month.

A total of 18 people were arrested in the federal sting dubbed "Operation Muerta Negra."
