5 injured in wreck during police pursuit
Police say five people have been hurt, one of them seriously, after a group of suspected burglars wrecked a truck while fleeing police in northeast Austin.
About 2:00 p.m. Thursday, police got a 911 call about a possible burglary in the 9900 block of Childress Drive, just north of Rundberg Lane and east of Interstate 35. The four burglary suspects fled in a pickup truck south on Cameron Road, then crashed into a van at the intersection with Rutherford Lane less than two miles away.
One of the suspects was thrown from the vehicle and was taken to the hospital with possible head injuries. EMS says the injuries are life-threatening.
The other three suspects and the driver of the van were taken to a hospital with less serious injuries.
A police spokesman could not describe the circumstances of the wreck--whether the van was stopped or moving.
There was no indication that police were involved in the wreck, and no officer was injured.
