Change is on the way for one of Austin's favorite scenic sites.
The West Point Society of Central Texas wants to spruce up the landscaping around Mount Bonnell. Parks and Recreation said these improvements could cost anywhere from $50,000 to $150,000. The society has raised most of the money through donations and a grant from the Austin Parks Foundation would cover the rest.
"We don't want the general public to visit the site and find out that it’s been improved without their knowing and without their input," said Rey Hernandez of the Austin Parks and Recreation Department.
The city is holding a meeting Wednesday, Feb. 20 at 6:30 p.m. to discuss the changes. It will be held at the Mayfield House and Nature Preserve, 3505 West 35th St.
