Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott is putting his name behind a tougher set of right-to-work laws.

Abbott joined Republican lawmakers Rep. Charles "Doc" Anderson and Sen. Kel Seliger in introducing the proposal. If passed, it would prohibit workers from voting to unionize via public ballot. Representatives for Texas AFL-CIO call Abbott's actions an effort to intimidate workers.

There's long been speculation that Austin State Representative Mark Strama might run for Austin mayor. We still don't know for sure if that's the case, but we do know he's not running for a sixth term in the House. In a , Strama says he decided before the start of this legislative session that this would be his last.

YNN's Harvey Kronberg joined us to weigh in on the implications of that decision.

In 2011, the Texas legislature cut the Department of State Health Services' Family Planning Program by 66 percent. That resulted in a loss of preventative care to about 147,000 low-income women.

One group trying to reverse those cuts is the Texas Women's Healthcare Coalition.
The head organizer of the coalition, Dr. Janet Realini, joined us in the studio to talk about her goals.
