Crews still restoring power after heavy Monday winds

Utility companies worked through the night to restore power to thousands of customers after fierce winds
swept through the area Monday.
Officials say the extreme conditions downed trees, power lines and even a few power poles. At its peak, 12,000 members of the Pedernales Electric Co-op and 18,000 Austin Energy Customers were without power.
As of 4 a.m. Tuesday, 2,200 people using Austin Energy still didn't have power. Officials with Austin Energy say 200 locations still need to be repaired, but crews will work non-stop until power is restored.
Most of the outages were in the Wells Branch area, and other spots in North Austin. Along with Austin Energy repair crews, about a half dozen tree trimming crews were called to clear roadways and clean up fallen trees.
"Gusty wind is about the number one enemies of electric systems," Austin Energy spokesperson Ed Clark said. "It presses tree limbs against power lines, it breaks tree limbs."
