A brief SWAT situation in Leander forced authorities to evacuate half-dozen homes Tuesday morning.

Authorities say constables were serving a warrant to Cory Allen Patrick for failing to pay child support when he fled to a nearby shed and took a woman hostage.

The constables backed off and called in SWAT teams. After about 30 minutes, Patrick gave up and surrendered.

Sgt. John Foster says the SWAT team handled the situation perfectly.

"I'll say that compared to the last hostage situation that we had where the person took their own life and was firing at us, and we subsequently fired back at him, this one ended much more peacefully than that and this is a really good, textbook, great job," Sgt. Foster said.

Patrick will likely now face additional charges for false imprisonment of the woman he briefly took hostage.
