A fire forced 15 residents of a South Austin retirement home to evacuate early Monday morning.
The Austin Fire Department got the call around 2:15 a.m. Crews had to knock down flames that were shooting through the roof of the complex.
Responders say everyone was able to evacuate safely and quickly.
"It went very well for the type of facility that it is for the police department and ourselves,” AFD Battalion Chief Thayer Smith said. “We were very quickly able get it evacuated and get the fire knocked down."
The evacuated residents are now in a community center on the property. No one was hurt in the incident.
