Round Rock officer shoots self in foot
A Round Rock police officer was injured Tuesday when he inadvertently shot himself in the foot during firearms training.
According to the Round Rock Police Department, Officer Sean Johnson was attending a Glock instructor workshop at the Williamson County Firing Range at 1:45 p.m. Tuesday when the incident occurred.
Immediately following the accidental shooting, other Round Rock officers applied first aid treatment to Johnson at the scene. He was then taken to Seton Williamson County Hospital in Round Rock.
There, medical staff treated him for a gunshot wound to his right foot and discharged him later Tuesday evening. Ongoing treatment and therapy are expected, police said.
Johnson has been employed with the Round Rock Police Department since 2006. He’s currently assigned as a sergeant in the training division.
Round Rock police are conducting an investigation into the incident.
