Austin’s historic Driskill Hotel is now owned and operated by an affiliate of the Hyatt Hotels Corporation.
According to a spokesperson for Hyatt, the 189-room hotel will still be named Driskill, but will now operate under the umbrella of Hyatt Hotels and Resorts. Hyatt paid about $85 million for the legendary hotel.
“We are thrilled to add such a well-loved local icon to the Hyatt family and are delighted to be increasing our presence in Austin, which offers world-class business and educational institutions, as well as thriving entertainment and technology scenes,” Rakesh Sarna with Hyatt said in a press release.
The spokesperson said that the hotel will now undergo an $8 million renovation which is expected to preserve the downtown landmark's historic look and legacy. The renovation should take about two years.
