The banner weekend of film premieres and movie stars continued on day three of the film festival with a bit of a Texas two-step at Paramount Theater where we saw local talent Matthew McConaughey and Willie Nelson showing off new movies.
Crime of passion and coming of age collide in "Mud" which follows the story of two boys who meet a mysterious man living nearby on a deserted island. In his follow up to "Take
Shelter" Austin-based director Jeff Nichols is riding another wave of critical acclaim into the festival.
"Personally I've never had a film at SXSW so there's a certain amount of pride bringing "Mud" here to what's my hometown," Nichols said.

For McConaughey it's another textured performance that continues a streak of what he considers non-traditional roles.
"It's unlike anything I've done before which is always nice as an actor and it's kind of what I've been looking for over the last few years in my career, things that I haven't done before, things that scared me a little but, things that I didn't know what I was going to do with the character but I was excited about diving in and finding out," said McConaughey.
Harry Connick Jr. and Willie Nelson headlined the red carpet for the world premiere of the locally made feature film "When Angles Sing." The holiday themed family drama features numerous local musicians and seems to have hit a sweet spot with much of the cast.
"I liked the idea that it was a family script, movie about Christmas and I grew up that way so it was easy for me to jump in there," said Nelson.
"When there's something that touches you I kind of jump at it, not that every movie should be a sweet family movie there's all kinds of great films but this one was especially nice and soulful and it had a lot of great characters in it with great actors that I wanted to work with," said Connick.

Lines wrapped around the building to see Sunday night's SXSW premiere of "Spring Breakers."
One of the big reasons for all the buzz, an appearance by Selena Gomez and co-stars including James Franco, who coincidentally stars in the weekend's number one movie "Oz the Great and Powerful," but don't confuse this movie with anything close to Disney material.
"Spring Breakers" is a rowdy crime thriller about four college girls who commit robbery to pay for their vacation and fall in with gangster drug and arms dealer played by Franco.
It comes with some comical undertones and the folks who made the film say not to take it too seriously.
"Harmony [Korine] said there's the movie that the media thinks I'm making and then there's the movie that I actually made so I think that they might think it's one thing but then they're in for a surprise I think that's always been the response so far."
"Spring Breakers" also played festivals in Venice and Toronto, it opens in theaters everywhere later this month.
