Sleet or Snow? More Winter Weather Coming
Another disturbance in the parade of Pacific winter storms moves to Texas midweek with chances for chilly rain, sleet and snow.
Our latest in-house computer models indicate a full inch of accumulation possible in the Hill Country, heavier totals further west along the Interstate-10 corridor. For Austin, it looks like chilly rain will turn into sleet, with a few potential flurries Wednesday night.
Polar air returned to Central Texas on Monday, resulting in a cold Tuesday, with temperatures in the 30s and 40s and dry, dense, cold air hugging the ground.
Slightly warmer Pacific moisture was seen spreading across Mexico, ready to sweep over the Rio Grande. This more buoyant moisture will run up and over the cold air already in place, resulting in clouds and light drizzle, which could potentially turn to rain Wednesday.

As the cold-cored upper air disturbance sweeps over Texas Thursday, the temperatures up through the atmosphere will drop and sleet may form. Light snow will be more probable for the Hill Country by early Thursday morning.
During the day Thursday, warming temperatures will cause the precipitation to fall in the form of rain. Generally, ½ - 1 inch of rain may fall in our area with greater totals south near I-10.
Little to no accumulation is expected at this time, though any elevated object at or below freezing may glaze over with ice especially during the nighttime hours Wednesday night and again Thursday night.
