Investigators blame a lightning strike for a fire at the
Barr Mansion in northeast Austin.
Fire crews were called to the 10000 block of Sprinkle Road at 4 a.m. Wednesday. When crews arrived on scene, authorities say the building was fully engulfed in flames.
At 5 a.m. the fire was under control, but as of 7:40 a.m. crews were still managing hot spots. There were no injuries reported.
Hours after the destruction, owners made it clear they will rebuild.
With weddings booked clear into next year, many couples spent Wednesday scrambling.
Elaine Lincoln said the local wedding industry is a tight-knit community. Lincoln runs her own venue in Georgetown and works with Wedding Industry Outreach, an organization centered on giving.
"Because of that, we've really been able to unite as a group -just the wedding industry as a whole," Lincoln said. "So, we had a whole list of names of everyone who was connected with that and just sent out word."
Barr Mansion will set up air conditioned tents to host the weddings set for this weekend.
The gardens, kitchen and mansion itself are all still intact. The event facility is a total loss and damage estimates exceed $500,000.
