Travis Eaton and his family are picking up the pieces after the Guadalupe River flooded the area and damaged their two-story summer home.
About 10-12 inches hit the New Braunfels area, just south of San Marcos, Wednesday morning. Raging waters flooded the area, damaged homes and lifted vehicles.
Eaton said he woke up and found himself surrounded by water.
"I saw both of our cars floating down the river and I heard the windows breaking downstairs and water was rushing in very quickly," he said. "We tried to grab what we could to take upstairs, but within a short amount of time you could not get downstairs, because all of this was completely under water."
After many attempts to call for help, it arrived three hours later.
"They were able to wade across when the water started to go down, and attach us to the ropes with life jackets and pull us out," Eaton said.
The Eaton's weren't alone. More than 90 rescue calls were received in the area.
After the water receded, Eaton went looking for his truck.
"Earlier, when we first saw it all, this was under water, we just saw the top of it and the lights were still blinking at the time," he said. "My dad's Corvette is about 100 yards that way, submerged against another tree."
The Eaton family had originally planned to rent out the home for the rest of the summer, but for now, the family will be talking to insurance companies and hoping for a quick recovery.
