OKLAHOMA CITY — Fire crews have been going door-to-door in one Oklahoma City neighborhood, asking people to leave their homes while inspectors look at a nearby dam.
Officials said rising water has been creeping toward the top of the dam, as the city gets anywhere from 1 to 3 inches of rain an hour.
It brought flash flooding across the Oklahoma City area, stranding motorists on their morning commutes. Three interstate highways were closed, and there were at least half-a-dozen rescues. No injuries are reported.
A police spokeswoman said some cars are “totally submerged,” with just their rooftops visible.
Some areas are without electricity because of lightning strikes.
