LAREDO, Texas - The Rio Grande crested in Downtown Laredo overnight and is expected to remain high for the next several days.
Officials at the National Weather Service say the river reached roughly 42 feet Friday morning as water from reservoirs upstream and heavy rains from two tropical weather systems poured into the normally dry region.
The international bridge in downtown, which sits just above the high water, remained closed. Two other bridges, including a heavily used commercial bridge, are open but with limitations on how many vehicles can travel over them.
Several Laredo neighborhoods were still evacuated Friday, with a few flooding houses getting up to 2 feet of water.
