News 8 Austin's Tracy Gladden filed the following report from the scene.

Search underway for driver swept away by floodwaters
Little is left of an SUV that was swept away by a rain-swollen Bull Creek early Wednesday morning.

Crews are resuming the search for the driver of the SUV, after recovery efforts were forced to halt due to debris in the water earlier Wednesday morning.

That’s when authorities say two drivers attempted to pass over the bridge at FM 2222 and Lakewood Drive after the water had risen over the barricade.

The initial person drove past the barricades, over the bridge, and into the water. The driver was saved by water rescue crews. Officials said when they found her, she was holding onto a tree.

Authorities say the driver of the SUV crossed the barricade at the same time the initial rescue was occurring. The officer chased after her as she attempted to cross the bridge while the water was overtopping it.

Officials said her vehicle got stuck in the water and floated briefly before the vehicle overturned and tumbled down into the creek.

Crews have found her vehicle, and the search begins again to recover the missing driver. AFD said the search will begin upstream from where her Lexus SUV was found. They'll search in a grid pattern from the area near where the SUV was found, all the way down to Lake Austin.

Fire officials are working on getting divers in the water.

Officials say to remember to "turn around, don’t drown."

"It’s not worth it. At night your headlights will reflect off the road, just like they do on water. If you know it’s a low water crossing, by all means, don't attempt it," Austin Fire Capt. Marc Saenz said.

STARFlight crews were dispatched more than 20 times overnight, and completed 13 rescues.

All three STARFlight helicopters were in use.

As the water crested the bridge, it surged under the bridge as well, creating a swirling motion that caused FM 2222 to sink in. Cleanup efforts are now underway.
