Some people headed to the Austin City Limits Music Festival use the Barton Creek Greenbelt as a thoroughfare to Zilker Park. However, the greenbelt is far from ‘green,’ these days, making it an easy terrain for fires to start.

Alex Rodriguez lives in the neighborhood near the greenbelt. He says he is worried about partiers getting out of control.

"There's just a lot of dry foliage and it hasn't rained in months," he said. "I know at these festivals everyone is smoking cigarettes because everyone is drinking and having a good time. But they just need to be careful. They need to realize how dry it is up here even though it is a little overcast."

Both the Austin Parks and Recreation Department and the Barton Hills Neighborhood Association have put up signs warning of the extremely dangerous fire conditions, urging people not to light up.

"We've been very aware of the weather reports of the smoke on the news and things
like that," festival attendee John Birney said. "And being from Florida, we've had so many wildfires in Florida over the time I've lived there that it's something that really scares me so we're concerned about it."

Here in Central Texas, many communities are still picking up the pieces from several devastating Labor Day weekend wildfires.

"We wouldn't do anything to hurt Austin. We love it. So you know we realize,” Birney said. “And again we have empathy for the situation so we're very conscious."

Festival officials will ask anyone smoking to put out their cigarette. If that person refuses, they will be asked to leave the park.
