Just one day ahead of the big Formula One race weekend in Austin, and thousands of fans are already pouring into the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport.

Officials at ABIA are expecting up to 36,000 passengers coming and going on Thursday alone, 18,000 of those flying in for the U.S. Grand Prix. Travelers are urged to arrive at least two hours before their scheduled flight.

ABIA spokesman Jim Halbrook says although there will be delays and large crowds similar to those for the Thanksgiving break, the airport is ready.

"We're ready to welcome the race fans,” he said. We've got 70-plus CSRs on the concourse from early morning until late at night, and past midnight, just to help people who are unfamiliar with this airport get through it. Get to their transportation easily. Get where they want to go as quickly as possible."
