With bells on her toes and her dad by her side, Jessica Huber was ready to address the crowd at MADD's Jingle Bell 5K.
"I'm excited to be the leader of the race," Jessica said.
Huber lead the race in the pace car because she survived a drunk-driving wreck at just 19 months old. Doctors told Huber's dad Mark she wouldn't survive the traumatic brain injury.
"She's made a lot of progress. She walks, she talks, she goes on the school bus. By the time she's an adult or a little bit older, she should make close to an 85 percent recovery," Mark Huber said.
Jessica is legally blind and deaf in one ear. She has partial paralysis on her right leg as well as cognitive and learning disabilities. Her dad opened Jessica's Cheesesteaks, a food trailer on 5th and Colorado Streets, one year ago to offset her medical bills. He says those bills could cost $8 million.
Jessica is a cheerleader at Leander Middle School. She also enjoys horseback riding.
