On the day after Christmas, retailers braced for another rush of holiday shoppers. This time around, however, the shoppers are picking their own gifts.

"Everybody comes in with their gift cards or new technology that they maybe want to exchange for something else, so it's definitely not over,” Chad Cooley, assistant manager at a local Best Buy, said. “It's kind of a week-long ordeal."

Hitting the stores the day after Christmas to spend more money and stand in more lines may sound daunting for some, but for others, it's a holiday tradition.

"I usually come out like the day after,” shopper Ryan Woods said. “It's something we've always done.”

Accessorizing those holiday gifts also brings people back out.

"I got an iPad, so I'm trying to get a case for it today," Woods said.

And for those less than happy with the gifts they got, retailers are urging customers to be a little extra patient.

"Just be prepared for it to be busy,” Cooley said. “We got a lot of people coming in."

Many gift cards do not expire, but some do. Their terms can be found on the back of the card.
