Jesús Chávez
Jesús Chávez, superintendent of the Round Rock Independent School District, announced Wednesday that he will resign from his position at the end of the year. According to a spokesperson with the school district, Chávez began his education career 35 years ago as a grade school teacher in the Brownsville Independent School District. In two years, he was promoted to assistant principal and moved to RRISD as an office administrator in January 1985.
Chávez earned his doctoral degree from the University of Texas in 1989 and took over as superintendent of RRISD in 2006. He was named Superintendent of the Year for the region in 2009 and 2011.
Chávez’s retirement will be effective on Dec. 31, 2013.
