The City of Waco is working to clarify a nightclub ordinance.

If the changes pass, owners would be required to apply for their nightclub license separately from their certificate of occupancy. Other parts of the ordinance would categorize night clubs into separate adult and teen clubs.

Some officials said the procedure would help the city regulate night clubs.

"It gives us the ability to review the operations of business, and if it's causing problems in the neighborhood or causing problems in the community at some point, then that gives us the ability to look at the licensing and try to make corrections," said Waco Police Chief Brent Stroman.

Other officials called the ordinance unnecessary because the city already has safety and health codes to help regulate nightclubs. City officials plan to meet with club owners to explain the proposed changes to the ordinance.

This is the second time the city council has considered changing the ordinance.
